The board of west Bengal council for higher secondary education is run by the west Bengal state government. West Bengal education board is regarded as the autonomous body that administers all the rules and regulations in schools till standard 12 examinations. The students who have passed out class 10 from West Bengal Education Board are known to qualify madhyamik examination. Students who have qualified class 12 from West Bengal Education Board is known to have qualified Uchyaa Madhyamik.

Like every corporate office and head quarters, West Bengal Education Board is also having its headquarter. It is known as Vidyasagar Bhavan which is located in Salt Lake City. West Bengal Education Board is also having three other offices apart from headquarter. These three offices are located at Karunamoyee, Bidhannagar and Kolkata.

History of West Bengal Education Board

Higher secondary examination was not conducted under the autonomous body from very beginning of the establishment of West Bengal Education Board. Till the year 1960, the higher secondary examination under West Bengal Education Board was conducted under the shade of Calcutta University . This has got a separate body when the government of west Bengal have established a separate council for such examination. This was enacted with the higher secondary education act 1975.

Operation of the council

Like any other company, the council established under 1975 act has a perpetual succession with body corporate. It has a spate legal entity along with a seal. West Bengal Education Board is unambiguous with influence of its member. For any decision about education and examination, the council have to sit together along with all its members. If the decision is agreed upon by all the members of the West Bengal Education Board, the decision is said to have its approval.
Like any other board, West Bengal Education Board has got appointed members with different positions such as President, ex-officio members, director of technical education. Secretary, director of education etc. All the officials associated with West Bengal Education Board have got different operations. An auditor is also present for strict speculation.
