With so many interruptions at hand, staying productive and focused in the office can be a challenge. If organizing your time properly has become a daily struggle for you, here are 10 strategies to be more productive at work:

1. Make the most of your mornings

Waking up early and making the most of the early hours of the day will allow you to take advantage of the time when your brain has the most concentration and your body has the most energy. Do a short exercise routine or drink a cup of coffee while you plan your day to make way for maximum productivity throughout the day.

If waking up early is a problem for you, take steps to go to bed early the night before (no coffee after 2pm!), as sleeping less than six hours a day can have a big impact on your productivity. Another useful recommendation is to set your alarm clock away from your bed, so that you have no choice but to get up and turn it off.

2. Ensure one day of rest a week

Contrary to what you might think, working non-stop all week is bad for your productivity. If you're a real "workaholic", you should plan on one full day off a week. Schedule a really rewarding activity for that day. As you get back into the swing of things you will be happier and more relaxed.

3. Take care of your diet

You never felt an urge to take a nap after a hearty lunch? That's because foods like pasta, bread, sugary drinks, and high-fat foods cause your body to release glucose - the substance responsible for your energy - very quickly, but then this energy declines as quickly and sharply as it went up. In addition, heavy, high-fat meals require your body to work harder at digestion, which will make you feel tired and lethargic.

The best way to avoid this decline is to choose the healthiest options available to you, as well as eating small amounts of food throughout the day instead of a single hearty meal. What to choose? Foods like fish, nuts, seeds, dark chocolate, avocado, and whole grains can help you feel full and energized.

4. Exercise regularly

A study from the University of Georgia showed that exercise, even at low or moderate intensity, has the ability to improve your cognitive skills, increase your creativity and decrease fatigue symptoms by up to 65%, all factors that help you feel more energetic, productive and happy. Try to take at least a half-hour walk after work.

5. Count your time

If you want to make the most of your time, you must first know exactly what you are spending it on. There are several applications, such as DeskTime, Timesheet or MyMinutes, that allow you to count how much time you spend per day checking your emails, looking at Facebook, exercising or working. Being clear about this will give you clues to reflect on your productivity and start organizing yourself better. 6. Divide your goals into smaller tasks

You'll probably find that after five minutes, you'll have no problem keeping working.

8. Stay away from multitasking.

Performing different tasks at the same time is detrimental to concentration and productivity. A University of Michigan study has shown that the brain has to readjust each time it goes from one task to another, creating a waste of time that could have been avoided by concentrating on one thing at a time.

9. Prevent distractions

Did you know that the average worker is interrupted about 11 times an hour? Interruptions can have a severe impact on your productivity, because just like multitasking, they require your brain to readjust before it can resume the flow of work. To prevent them, avoid all distractions you can control: mute your phone whenever you're working, having a conversation or spending time with your family; turn off chat or message notifications on your computer; and log out of Facebook, Twitter and other social networks. Instead of checking your mailbox constantly, assign different times of day and allow yourself to be seen only at those times.

10. Optimize your work environment

The environment in which you work can positively or negatively influence your productivity levels. For example, if your work is creative in nature, a place with ambient sound - like a coffee shop - can benefit you. On the other hand, if your work requires high levels of concentration, seek a quiet environment. Whenever possible, try to work in natural light, as artificial light can make you feel more sleepy and stressed. As for the temperature of the room, an environment that is too cold can lower your energy levels, as your body will need it to maintain its normal temperature. Another important factor is organization: keep your desk tidy so you can quickly find what you need and keep out other possible distractions.
