Girls outshine boys in UP high school examination

Girls once again outperformed boys in the high school examinations conducted by the Uttar Pradesh Board for Secondary Education, results of which were declared here 10 June.

Pass percentage of female students, however, registered a marginal drop, while that of their male counterparts rose slightly from the previous year.


A total of 32.39 lakh students, comprising 18.16 lakh boys and 14.23 lakh girls, had appeared in the examinations this year, which were held between March 17 and April 4, Sanjay Mohan, Director-Secondary Education, told reporters.


Out of these, 22.94 lakh secured pass marks, which put the overall pass percentage at 70.82 per cent, an improvement of 0.03 per cent from last year's High School results.

 

Though, the boys were beaten by the girls in  terms of overall pass percentage, their performance registered an improvement of 1.82 per cent compared with previous year, while that of the girls declined by 0.37 per cent.


Among Uttar Pradesh districts, Mau (86.58), Gonda (81.04) and Maharajganj (80.43) came up with the most impressive pass percentages, but Ferozabad (46.97), Kaushambi (52.33) and Farrukhabad (55.42) stood at the bottom.
