Parting gift

The University of Pune (UoP) declared the results of the prestigious M-Tech-PhD course entrance examination, which had been conducted by the new Faculty of Technology two months ago. Thus, former vice-chancellor of the UoP, R K Shevgaonkar managed to leave a parting gift behind for some of his students.

The UoP displayed a list of 19 students out of 36 seats, selected for the integrated programme. The other students will be selected by corporates and their list will be put up on Monday. However, Shevgaonkar will not be able to inaugurate the department of technology that has taken shape on the UoP campus.

The results had been held up for the last one month and about 1,500 aspirants who had appeared for the examinations and interviews, had been anxiously awaiting the results. The UoP was supposed to declare the results on August 28 but for some reason it was decided to delay this to August 31. Again, the date was postponed to September 6 and finally results were declared on Sept 15. The UoP administration said that there was barely any coordination among UoP top bosses when it came to the declaration of the results and the signing of the result sheets. The three top UoP bosses failed to come under one roof to sign result sheets, which were supposed to be uploaded onto the UoP's official website.
