Results of Goa board's Class XII exam announced

Updated on: Thursday, May 19, 2011

Girls outsmarted boys in the Higher Secondary School Examination results announced by the Goa Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary School Education (GBSHSSE).

Overall 77.17 per cent students cleared the Class XII examination held in March-April. Of these, 79.16 per cent were girls and 74.90 per cent boys.

In all, 12,683 students appeared for the examination of which 9,787 passed.

The current year's results witnessed a drop from last year, when the passing percentage was 82.52.

GBSHSE Chairman Mervin D'souza said the board will analyse reasons behind the decline in the pass percentage.

He said the final results are the outcome of marks and grades received by students during the year.

For the first time, the results announced today did not specify whether the students had received distinction or any other class.

"It simply labels them as pass. The students can get the details on the mark-sheet," he said.

The board has decided to do away with the marks system from the next academic year and instead adopt grading system.

The results announced today have 66.69 per cent students passing in Arts, 79.28 per cent in Commerce, 74.60 per cent in Science and 87.59 per cent in Vocational stream.

Four schools each have scored 100 per cent results in Commerce and Vocational streams, D'Souza said.
