Endangered languages

The Central Institute of Indian Languages (CIIL), listed 500 endangered languages, each spoken by less than people.

Two day workshop on Endangered tribal languages in south India was organized by anthropological society of India and CIIL.

L. Ramamoorthy, Head Linguistic Data consortium for Indian languages CIIL said, the work will be taken under a scheme to save and protect endangered languages.

The aim of this project is to develop dictionaries and also document to preserve the ethnic knowledge in the languages including folklores.

It is also planned to form Grammar.
