Engineering College Principles without Ph.D

Anna University proposed a stand not to allow B.E graduates as a teaching faculty member in engineering colleges from forthcoming academic year until 2014.15, All India council of Technical Education permitted UG degree due to lack M.E. graduates.

Ph.D qualification is mandate for the posts of principles for engineering colleges, according to the norms of AICTE.

It is noted that 36 out of the 535 private Engineering colleges in Tamil Nadu do not have Ph.D qualification. The information was informed by Anna University under the RISLT to information Act. This is a drawback in the Application process of Anna University for this question Rajaram, the Vice Chancellor of Anna University responded that the affiliation was given based on aggregate marks.

It is understood from the vice chancellor, that if a college gets the minimum percentage of marks, the affiliation will be granted even of the principal did not have a Ph.D. Anna University is not obtaining an under taking from the college for appointing a qualified principal.

According to the information given by an Anna University official that it is mandatory that one out of 8 faculty members in a department in an Engineering college must be a Ph.D holder.
