Area of operation of Distance Education

Correspondence distance education for all the people who continue their studies. This system is mostly useful, for the working classes who are interested to continue their studies. There are many reasons to  opt distance mode of Education like interest, passion, promotion etc. but the method of operation, applicability and depth are always the factor to be debated for a long time.

The important constraints are the observed irregularities of the distance education stream and number of study centers.

To rectify this issue, the university grants commission (UGC) has sent a notice to all the state universities to restrict the area of operation with in the state jurisdiction itself.

Mr. H.Devaraj, the Vice Chairman of University Grants Commission told, several state universities were setting study centres for distance Education mode in franchise model in states which are far away from this head quarters. It is observed, that the factor of distance and proximity seriously disturb the quality of education.

The vice chairman said, "Any university which is established under state act can operate only with in the territorial jurisdiction allotted to under its act and in no case beyond the territory of the state of its location. No university central, state or deemed can offer its programme through its franchise."

To effectively implement this, the UGC has asked the details of number of students, study centres, franchises from the university offering distance education. He also explained that all these measures are to help the students who are studying in distance and correspondence mode.

Professor C.Pichandy, the vice president of University Teachers that several universities has permitted as many franchises as possible and he insisted that the universities should follow the order sincerely. He also expressed that some universities have appointed National co-ordinations to increase admissions from other states to admit students in distance mode.
