Engineering course Heritage conservation

State Government of Tamil Nadu has decided to organise a 6 week course. On conservation and restoration of monuments for the engineers. Now-a-days, a large number of restoration and conservation projects were taken by different Government Departments in particular Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments. There is a need that Engineers should have sufficient knowledge in heritage conservation.

Rs.90 crore has been sanctioned by the Finance Commission to renovate around 200 temples without disturbing its heritage value.

Ranganathar temple in Srirangam is top in the list of renovation. What is supposed to be the major task. The government has decided to renovate Arunachaleswarar temple in Thiruvannamalai also.

Restoration of kalas Matal in Chepauk and National Art Gallery building Egmore will also be given importance. The said course will be conducts by State Archeology Department, in 2 sets. The course is compulsory for the engineers working in AR & CE department. The Engineers working in Public works and Highways also have to undergo this course.

With the help of HR & CE, the Archaelogical Survey of India, IIT, Madras University and State Archeology and moreover Department will join hands to form the syllabus for the course3.

The syllabus of the course will be about all heritage monuments and temples.
