Students and parents are waiting for their XII results and cut off marks which is supposed to be released on Ist week of May. The private Engineering colleges and Deemed Universities already started their seats hunting business. Anna University is yet to issue the applications for Engineering Admissions. But, the Deemed universities already started advertising their so called All India Entrance Examinations

At this juncture, let us have a look on Engineering Admission of last Academic year. There are 554 engineering colleges now in Tamil Nadu. The number of seats sanctioned for the year 2013-2014 is 2,85,853. The number of seats filled in this Academic year is 1,82,255. This means, the number of seats vacant is 103598. The number of seats vacant in self financing colleges is 1,02,859.

More than one lac engineering seats or close to 40% of seats in Tamil Nadu went vacant in 2013-2014. Most of the vacancy prevails in self financial Institutions.

The fun here is, 2 self- financing colleges we unable to fill even one seat. 8 colleges were simply unable to fill 10% of the seats allotted to them. This shows that the students and parents are very careful in selecting the colleges.
