Education Scenario in India

Updated on: Monday, March 31, 2014

The numbers of students appearing for board examinations are gradually increasing year by year. Naturally this increase will have its own effect in college admissions. In this Academic year 2000 more students from the state board schools are taking the board examinations in Chennai only. There were 133 examination centers for the board examination and now it is 144.

There is an increase of 10% in the care of students who are writing central board of secondary Education examinations. 53,357 students in Chennai are writing state board examinations this year. 7366 students are appearing for CBSE examinations.

The over all number of candidates in Tamil Nadu in state board is 8 lac and in CBSE it is more than 10,000/- it is expected that then will be a mad rush regarding the college admission is concerned. Like professional admissions. It is expected that may be an expected rush also in Arts & Science colleges. Since there is a good expectation of job opportunities for the fields of arts and commerce the demand for these courses also may go high.

While this is the case in Tamil Nadu let us analyses a general trend in some other part of India. In Chhattisgarh, 32 students of Koynapada Primary school in Darbha block in Bastar District did not attend school at all, because the school itself did not exist. How the school has this appeared?  In 2007 Rs. 6.45 lakh has been given to the gram panchayat. To construct a single storeyed building of koyanapada. The reason for not constructing the building, according to panchayat's is the fear towards Maoist.

More over 3.95 per day for each of the 32 children. In the mid day the place meant for mid day meal will have simple facilities for 10 children only if asked the Head master may respond that the students have eaten food and left. These amounts are from the funds of Sarva Sikhsa Abhiyam of the Government. It means, this school simply exists only in the paper. Several such papers schools also exist and the funds are given for non-existing schools.

There is another residential school in Sukma District called Chintaguta residential school. According to the enrollment there are 200 students, but we can see in reality only 40. If asked the teacher may say, the students are on leave. This school receives Rs.950 for each of the students under Rajiv Gandhi Shiksha Mission (RGSM). This is another kind of problem. This kind of mismanagement seems to occur in various forms in various areas. The money is looted in the form of under cost constructions and false construction. Realizing this kind of deep corruption RGSM restricted the funds also.

The issue of Angan wadis is little moreworse. The children of Angan wadis in few areas here suffer from starvations. The program failed completely in the villages of pinnabheji and Misma in sukma District.

The centre is supposed to provide rice, lentil soup, grams, beans, and molasses. But nothing is available. The children wear tattered clothes and worn out reading material were hanging on the walls. Besides the constraints for children, the tribal women did not get their salary also.
