Sports quota students opt for MBBS

Chennai: In engineering counselling, candidates figured in the rank list of both engineering and medical under the sports quota, did not choose engineering, which was held at Anna varsity on July 5.

J.Agnishwar, a swimmer received the call letter for counseling held on Sunday, but could not make it as he was away in Germany and his father Jayaprakash represented him.

Agnishwar has picked the course in BE mechanical engineering at the College of Engineering, Guindy, a department of the Anna University ,Vice chancellor of Anna University (Chennai) Prof P.Mannar Jawahar said that three more candidates also figured in the rank list of both engineering and medical under the sports quota, but they did not choose engineering

'In all, 3,327 candidates applied for the sports quota of which 332 were called for counseling held for 100 seats. Of this, 12 seats were allotted in four campuses of Anna University, Chennai and remaining seats were in government, government aided and self financing engineering colleges, besides Anna UniversityTiruchy, where under graduate programmes are offered,' he said

While first rank holder Pon Krithika was allotted electronic and communica tion in CEG, the second rank holder Anvesha Reddy had chosen industrial biotechnology from AC college of technology, campus of Anna University. The third rank holder Uthra picked ECE at MIT campus Vice chancellor said that as per the government's reservation the seats were allotted to the candidates including special reservation for Arunthathiyar among SC category reservation.
