Mumbai will host 61st general assembly of the International Federation of Medical Students Association (IFMSA) in August.

The Medical Students Association of India (MSAI) has won the bid to host the event, the theme of which is universal healthcare.

The development is noteworthy as only two months ago the IFMSA gave membership to MSAI as the 100th member of the federation, IFMSA India president Pratap Naidu said in a statement.

The Mumbai general assembly is expected to have  a participation of at least 1,000 delegates from 104 countries and the delegates will discus issues related to providing affordable healthcare, providing financial risk protection, improved access to healthcare services and improved health outcomes.

IFMSA is an international organisation comprising future physicians who are interested in global health issues, and is recognised by both the UN and the WHO as the international forum for medical students.
