Most seven-year olds would run away from anything remotely news-oriented, but Anand S. Pillay happily attached himself to the dailies, lured in by the game of ‘politrix’ his nation seemed to indulge in every day.

“I liked to read about the wars in national and international politics,” says Anand, now a 10th grader of Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan School.

And, that put him on the path of quiz that eventually became a passion for Anand who has participated in up to 50 contests and won prizes in most of them.

In the annual Radio Mirchi quiz contest, Anand won the second prize along with his partner Akshay.

Two months ago, the duo won the all-Kerala quiz held at Sainik School, Thiruvanantha-puram. Overall, Anand has participated in three state-level competitions and one national contest conducted by The Hindu Young World.
