IIM-U likely to begin admissions from 2011

Indian Institute of Management, Udaipur (IIM-U) is likely to begin admissions to its hallowed portals from 2011.

"We expect IIM-U to shortlist candidates on the basis of Common Admission Test(CAT) score 2011," a professor at the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad (IIM-A) said.
 
IIM-A is the mentoring institute for IIM-U. It will be providing curriculum content to the new IIM, and if required faculty support as well.
 
Land for the institute has been identified and the governing board of IIM-U comprising over 15 members has been constituted, an IIM-A professor said, adding that Hindustan Motors head C K Birla has been appointed chairman of the Board of Governors.
 
There are two representatives each from Union Ministry of Human Resource Development and Government of Rajasthan on the IIM-U board of governors.
 
Other members of board of governors include Executive Vice President Godrej Appliances Burezden Wadra, CMD Bharat Hotel Jyotsna Suri, Chairman NIIT Ltd Rajendra Pawar, head Cisco System Raghunath Salgame, Vice Chancellor Central University of Rajasthan M M Salunke, Advisor Crompton Greaves K K Nohria and former Chief Justice of Gujarat Yeduram Meena.
 
"Now efforts are underway to select a director for this new IIM. Once this happens, the project shall be put on fast track," he said.
 
"Once the director is appointed, the process for faculty recruitment will be initiated," he added.
 
Presently, IIM-U is operating from a school premises in Udaipur.
