The Indian Institute of Management-Ahmedabad (IIM-A) has another reason to celebrate its golden jubilee year, marking the completion of its 50th year since it was established. The prestigious institution is preparing to admit the highest number of foreign students under its student exchange programme for the next academic session.

Officials at IIM-A have owed the large number of foreign students applying for admission into the institute to India's growing global image as an emerging economy. Also, India has now become a popular destination for management graduates all over the world.

It was reported by IIM-A authorities that the number of foreign students who had come to the institute under the student exchange programme from premier European and North American business schools amounted to 65.

Faculty coordinator at IIM-A, A.K. Laha said that the institute was expecting more foreign students for several courses over the next trimester commencing from January 2011.

The rising number of foreign students every year that come to pursue education at IIM-A is a proof of the institute's popularity. According to sources, the number of foreign students who had joined in the year 2009-09 was 57 and had increased to 69 in 2009-10.

Also, the number of students that IIM-A had sent to foreign institutes from India during each of the two years was 96. Most students that come from abroad join the institute's flagship programme, Postgraduate Programme in Management (PGPM). The recent years have also seen a growing demand for the PGPX programme and double specialization courses.
