IIM-A changes selection criteria for fund-raising event

Updated on: Monday, October 03, 2011

Indian Institute of Management-Ahmedabad (IIM-A) today announced a change in the selection criteria for participants for 'A Day at IIM-A', a money raising event to teach the under-privileged.

"Instead of seat auctions on e-bay for the event now candidates will be selected from the entries received on the basis of a draw of lots. The deadline for filling the form is October 2," an official statement said. The event is proposed to be held on October 8 at IIM-A.

IIM-A would open its doors to a batch of 50 people as part of this event, for which the seat auctions on e-bay portal had begun on September 27. However, selection criteria for the charity event was revised today.

The method of selection for this event has been changed as organizers got calls from several interested candidates stating that the bids were moving beyond their range, an official statement said.

"The 15 inpiduals whose seats were confirmed through the earlier process are also being invited to spend this day without any obligation to contribute the amount of their bids," it said adding they can donate any amount.

The funds collected through this event will go to Prayaas, a social initiative by the IIM-A students to teach under-privileged children around the campus. The batch of students selected as part of this event shall get an opportunity to spend a day at IIM-A. They will be taught by the B-school professors in a typical IIM-A classrom environment using the pedagogy of institute i.e the case method.

"The latest effort to raise funds through this innovative concept showcases the out of box thinking that IIM-A teaches. These funds will help expand Prayaas initiative," Vipul Kedia, founder of Prayaas said.
