jnuJawaharlal Nehru University in a bid to promote Indian languages and research is considering to set up a school which will offer courses in Hindi, Urdu, Kannada and Assamese among others. The Jawaharlal Nehru University offers language courses in French, German, Russian, Spanish, Chinese, Japanese and Persian through its "School of Language, Literature and Cultural Studies.

Since the Jawaharlal Nehru University does not offer any Indian languages for research, it decided to include them too. The Jawaharlal Nehru University is looking forward to setting up a School of Indian languages which will undertake Masters programmes and research courses in Hindi, Urdu, Kannada, Tamil, Marathi, Assamese Bengali and Oriya languages," a senior varsity official said.

"A proposal regarding the same has been sent to all the departments and schools under the Jawaharlal Nehru University for their feedback on the same. Once the feedbacks are received, the matter will be placed before the Academic Council (AC) for its approval," the official added.
