'Wings of Fire book' by Dr APJ Abdul Kalam always tops the reservation chart in library

abdulkalamOn Thursday, the mortal remains of former President Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam was laid down at his native place in Rameswaram. But his ideas will live forever and that will motivate the youngsters and also old people.

'Wings of Fire' book , autobiography of Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam is one of the few books that always top the reservation chart in the State Central Library at Palayam. This book has never been out of the reservation book for not even a single day in the past 16 years.

P K Shobhana, employee of this library says "For the past 16 years, this book and its Malayalam translation 'Agnichirakukal' has been at the top of the reservation rack. This book is an inspiration to young students also of all the age groups. So every time we place order for new books, autobiography of Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam in both Malayalam and English comes first in the list".

The first copy of the autobiography of Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam 'Wings of Fire' book came to the libray in 1999. This library now has 13 copies of the book each from the first 13 editions published. Currently 8 copies of the Malayalam translation of the same book 'Wings of Fire' is available. The waitinglist for both english and malayalam version of the book 'Wings of Fire' will be around four months. It means, if a reader reserves the book 'Wings of Fire' for today, he will get a chance to read it for some time in December.

This library has more than 73,000 members and most of them are young readers.

According to the duty librarian Jayakumari I, the book 'Wings of Fire' by Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam is frequently asked by all the age groups, including school students. "It is a perfect book to follow one's dreams. Most of the students choose this motivational book as it helps to improve their confidence level. Some readers order for the book to give it to their children," said Jayakumari.

Library employees know readers who order for the book twice and thrice after being waiting in the queue each time.The library employees says this kind of good response is rare for any other book in the library. At this time when the entire country mourns the death of Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam the 'full reserved' label on all the 21 books in the libraries shelf will be the library's special tribute to the noble man Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam.
