Pune Boy Tops JEE from Maharashtra

“Sankalp Gaur” of Pune achieved the topper of joint entrance exam (JEE) Mains from the Maharashtra state. The results were declared on Monday evening. This year’s question paper was tough and cut-off for this year came down by 10 points to 105. 1.5 lakh students have been qualified from all over the country for the advanced exam to be held on May 24 and 700 students of them are from Pune.

Gaur secured 345 marks and is the likely topper from Pune. The data has been published based on information given by city-based coaching institutes. JEE Mains is a multiple choice questions having 90 questions and 360 marks with negative marking. Out of the Total 35,000 students who appeared from Pune, 800 students are expected to be qualified for the next stage. Total of 210 students of IITian's Prashikshan Kendra (IIT-P) are qualified for JEE Advanced. All of those students have undergone one-year or two-year coaching at IIT-P in Pune.

"The JEE Mains this year had lengthy questions in physics and was relatively difficult than the last two exams. Therefore, the cut-off score has fallen from 115 last year to 105 marks." Said Durgesh C Mangeshkar, director of IIT-P. Mangeshkar also said that students who studied for at least two years have performed well and scored above 100 marks. "students who studied for less than six months have scored only 40 marks. Many of the students have even scored less than zero marks. Students must spend at least two years for JEE preparation and not scramble at the last moment," Mangeshkar said. The JEE Mains exam score is important for admissions to all the 350 state engineering colleges, 30 NITs, 4 IIITs, DA-IICT and 40 more engineering colleges in the country. The JEE Advanced exam score is important for getting admission into the 16 IITs and ISM-Dhanbad.
