Supreme Court orders to NAAC Committee

As per the advice of Supreme Court National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) will take decision on accreditation of deemed universities based on various criteria’s required for getting recognition. Justice Dipak Misra, said accreditation given to universities will be subject to its final order.

The bench said admission for the new academic session is ahead and the universities should not find difficulties in admission because of lack of accreditation. "Admission to colleges depends on accreditation of the colleges. NAAC will decide on grading of institutions based on the ongoing proceedings and new regulation by government," it said.

Additional solicitor general Tushar Mehta told the bench that it was considering framing of new rule for accceditation and holding talks with various stake holders including University Grant Commission(UGC), All India Council for Technical Education(AICTE) and NAAC to evolve the criteria for grading. There are 41 deemed universities under judicial scrutiny and the court had directed UGC to do physical verification of eight of the institutions after they agreed for it.
