The All India Council for Technical Education has decided to appeal against the Supreme Court order stating its role is only "advisory" and colleges affiliated to various universities are not required to take its approval for running MBA and MCA courses.

The Supreme Court in its recent order had said the AICTE has no authority to issue any sanctions on universities and colleges affiliated to varsities.

"We have decided to file a review petition against the Supreme Court order," AICTE Chairman S S Mantha told.

He said they have tried to bring in transparency in matters of recognition of technical programmes run by various colleges and institutes over the last four years and they would not like the exercise to go in vain.

Mantha highlighted the SC ruling that the MBA programme will no more be considered a technical subject.
