UGC Orders to University

A new regulation is made as mandating for universities to give information on student admission and funding status. This was discussed in a recent meeting and it was also approved.

UGC Vice Chancellor H. Devaraj said that the participation of Universities in the All India survey on Higher Education is not up to the expectation. In case a University fails or delays in giving information, it will affect the policy making method of University grants commission. Now as per the new rule, giving information like Student admission, funding status its use have become mandatory for the universities. The rule which was a guideline now becomes mandatory and thus compulsory for universities, to provide proper information to the students.

According to new regulation, if the university did not give appropriate information to the students as directed, the university Grant Commissions funding would be stopped.

UGC has also brought one more guide line, UGC- Gender sensitization, prevention and prohibition of sexual harassment of women Employees and students and Redressal of Grievances in Higher Education Institutions Regulation 2015. This is the outcome of SAKSHAM report which deals with measures of providing safety and security of women on composes and programmes for gender sensitizes.

UGC formed a committee under the leadership of Devaraj to create choice Based credit systems.

University Grants Commission asked Anna University, Chennai and Bharathidasan University Trichy to give a revised proposal to give potential for Excellence (UPE) status.

Bharathiyar University, Coimbatore was asked to apply for the status for centre with Potential for Excellence in particular Area (CPEPA).

Bharathiyar University was earlier in the list of this status. UGC has already identified 7 Universities for this status which include.

TN Anna University – Chennai

Bharathiyar University – Coimbatore

Bharthidasan University – Trichy

Alagappa University – Karaikudi
