The Uttarakhand government directed all district magistrates to ensure that at least 25 per cent of the seats in private schools were earmarked for poor students under the Right to Education Act.

During a review meeting of "Sarv Shiksha Abhiyan" through video-conferencing, Chief Secretary Subhash Kumar said the expenditure incurred by private schools on the studies of poor students would be compensated by the state government, an official release said.

He said there were 18,948 non-aided private schools in the state where around 28,000 poor students should get admission by the end of this month.
