West Bengal CM extends fiancial assistance to poor meritorious students

West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee today extended financial assistance from his relief fund to 18 poor and meritorious students for
pursuing higher education.
Giving away assistance of Rs 1.80 lakh to the students, who hail from different districts, Bhattacharjee congratulated their parents for encouraging them.
      
The recipients belong to families of farmers, daily labourers, fruit sellers, vegetable vendors, potters and  even rickshaw pullers.
      
With this altogether 924 poor and meritorious students have received financial assistance of Rs 61.75 lakh during the current financial year from the Chief Minister's Relief Fund, official sources said.
 
Of the 18, two students are pursuing their education in engineering, one each in medical science and M.Sc, besides eight students are at the graduation level. The rest six students are in the higher secondary level, sources in the chief minister's secretariat said.
