Navodaya Vidyalayas to have leadership institutes

Updated on: Monday, December 27, 2010

Navodaya Vidyalayas will soon have a set of 'leadership institutes' to train its teachers and keep them abreast with the changing methods in teaching.

About seven of these institutes would come up soon, sources in the HRD Ministry said today.
The development comes as the Ministry has reportedly decided to exempt such institutes from the provisions of the Right to Education (RTE) Act as it makes them special category schools.

Sources said the view expressed at a meeting with Law Ministry officials was in favour of the HRD Ministry issuing a direction in this regard rather than bringing an amendment in the RTE Act.

The Ministry had sought opinion from legal experts and the Law Ministry in this regard.

There are 444 Navodaya Vidyalayas across the country at present.
