Chennai: Learning new skills is one of the ‘must-dos’ for employees seeking a secure tenure, at a time when IT companies are tightening their noose around the employees.

Joining short-term or part-time programmes is one way employees could acquire new skills without taking a break from their job.

Based on this general requirement, Chennai Business School (CBS), a management institute created by business leaders, has come forward with customised programmes to suit working professionals.

CBS offers two kinds of short-term courses – the Information Systems / Information Technology (IS / IT) courses and the other dealing with specific domains.

The course IS / IT, project management leading to the PMP (Project Management Professional) certification is covered. The courses also cover areas such as pre-sales, business development and proposal writing.

The domain-related programmes focus on specific areas, such as manufacturing, retail, insurance, banking, financial services, insurance and telecom.

CBS also plans to unfold an 18-month part-time Executive programme in Management.

According to Mohan Menon, the Director of CBS,  several IT professionals who are engineers have made a successful transition to disciplines such as marketing, HR and banking.
