Aiming at healthier future generations, over 1.52 crore children would be covered under the school health check-up programme beginning December 3, Gujarat health minister Jaynarayan Vyas said here today.
"The school health check-up programme has been initiated with twin objective of ensuring good health of children below 14 years and detecting diseases among the
school children," he told mediapersons here.

"Nearly 30 per cent of the state's population that is 1.52 crore would be covered under this programme. Children requiring super speciality treatment for heart, kidney or cancer like diseases would also be identified and referred to the specific hospitals," he said.

Giving details of the programme, Vyas said that it would cover 38.18 lakh children from 47,413 anganwadis, 84.15 lakh students from 41,020 primary schools and 29.79 lakh students of the secondary schools of the state.

The age group of children would be from infants up to 14 years and would also include non-school-going children up to the age of 14 years.

Vyas said that this was the first time they would be involving the local community in the programme along with the government doctors and health workers. This year the programme would be a week-long event where children would be screened before being administered the treatment, he added.
