Convergence between two literacy missions needed: Govt

Government today stressed the need for bringing about convergence between two of its key literacy missions to achieve the goal of raising literacy level in the country.
Minister of State for HRD D Purandeswari said one of the aspect of the literacy mission today is how to bring about "convergence between Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan and Saakshar Bharat, said Minister of State for HRD D. Purandeswari".
 
Chairing a meeting of the State Literacy Mission Authority and Zila Lok Shiksha Samities, she said using common infrastructure can be looked at for delivering Government's literacy programmes.
 
She also sought the support of Gram Panchayats in the implementation of the programmes especially with regard to proper listing of beneficiaries.
 
While the aim of 'Saakshar Bharat' programme is to impart formal education to the excluded population, deprived sections of society and minorities, especially women, the objective of Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan is to achieve universalisation of elementary education in the country.
