Updated on: Saturday, November 27, 2010

The Department of Posts will organise its 40th Universal Postal Union (UPU) Letter Writing competition for school-going children up to 15 years of age on January 2, 2011.

The subject for this year's competition is: Imagine you are a tree living in a forest. Write a letter to someone to explain why it is important to protect forests.'

The purpose of the competition is primarily to develop faculty in composition and subtlety of thought amongst young people and to contribute to the strengthening of international friendship, a circular from the CBSE stated.

The International Bureau of UPU will select three prizes amongst the best entries received from each member country. The Department of Posts will also award three winners at the national level with cash prizes and certificates.

Schools are requested to organise the competitions in consultation with the chief postmaster general of their respective region, the circular added.
