Arunachal Pradesh has appealed to the Centre to set up a state Council of Educational Research and Training to give a boost to education set-up in the state.

Education minister Bosiram Siram told Union Human Resources Development Minister Kapil Sibal in New Delhi yesterday that an autonomous body should be entrusted with planning, implementation and evaluation of all academic programmes that would give new direction to school education.

The minister also sought a 'special package' to train untrained teachers, officials said here today.

"Frequent change of NCERT textbooks causes lot of hardship to students," the minister said while addressing the 48th General Council Meeting of NCERT in New Delhi.

He also outlined strategies adopted to streamline state education sector such as enactment of Arunachal Pradesh Education Act, project for construction of teachers' quarters, recruitment of senior and junior teachers through Arunachal Pradesh Public Service Commission and monitoring mechanism under Right to Education.
