An Australian official who was here last week said his country continued to be a great education destination.

Stephen Connelly, president of the International Education Association of Australia and vice-president of RMIT, said both Melbourne and Delhi had succeeded on the world stage as proud Commonwealth Games host cities.

"Unemployment in Australia, at 5.1%, is considerably lower than in countries such as New Zealand, the UK, Canada and the US."

Connelly also highlighted new statistics from Victoria Police about public safety. "There has been a 27.5% drop in city assaults in the past three months compared with the same time last year," he said.

RMIT University is Australia's largest multi-sector educational institution, producing some of Australia's most employable graduates. With its heart in the city of Melbourne, RMIT University provides education to 72,000 students, including 28 000 international students from more than 100 countries.
