Yale signs MoU with IIM Kozhikode

As a sign off to the US President Barack Obama’s landmark India visit, Yale University has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with IIM Kozhikode to launch the Yale India Leadership program. This agreement will facilitate setting up a Centre of Excellence in Academic Leadership (CEEALs) at IIM Kozhikode campus. The MoU was signed by Richard Levin, President of Yale University and Debashis Chatterjee, Director IIM K and will come into effect from 1st January 2011.

Yale University will collaborate with IIM K to launch a series of exchange programmes in academic leadership. The pathways of collaboration are through longer-term sustained efforts on faculty development, leadership training etc. between Yale and the CEEALs. This will aid a leadership program focused on Vice Chancellors, Directors, Deans and current to future Academic Leaders in India.

Kapil Sibal, Union Minister for Human Resource Development, emphasised that he would like to see such a program take place at the Yale University for two years after which the program could have follow-up programs and activities in India.

Chatterje said, “IIM Kozhikode and Yale are iconic brands. There is a lot of synergy in terms of thinking and pursuing excellence. While emphasis is given to analytical skills with global perspective and cross cultural matching of ideologies, business demands make it imperative to grow and foster international corporate leaders. This MoU will create seamless boundaries for higher education and globalize Indian thought leadership while giving leaders an edge in global businesses.”
