Webster Univ in India

India may soon become the next destination for Webster University. The renowned US university has already become a prominent institution attracting thousands of Indian students to its 100 campuses across the globe.

The five Asian campuses of the university have around 400 students. “Five per cent of students studying in our university are Indians,” said assistant director of Webster University’s Thailand campus, Samrat Ray Chaudhuri.

The fee for enrolment in the undergraduate courses in Thailand is $8000. “The cost is much cheaper on the Asian campuses, considering their easier accessibility to Asian students. On the US campus, the enrolment fee for the undergraduate courses is $20,000. Some of the courses offered by the university across its global campuses are space technology, liberal arts, science courses and management studies,” said Ray Chaudhuri.

To throw open the Indian campus, talks are going on with the HRD ministry. “We will wait before we decide to set up the campus in a suitable place. The eastern region of India has a tremendous talent pull. Some of the best students and professors have come to study on our Thailand campus from this region,” said Ray Chaudhuri.

To apply to the UG courses, scoring 58% marks in the higher secondary examinations is mandatory. For the masters programmes, students who score 52% marks or more can apply.

“We also take into account IELTS grades. Students applying to UG courses need to score at least 6.5 on a scale of nine at IELTS while a score of 6 is enough for those applying for masters courses. We consider recommendation letters and the state of purpose followed by an interview,” said Ray Chaudhuri.
