IIFT to start PG diploma in global biz from 4 overseas centres

Management institute IIFT today said it will launch an executive post-graduate diploma program in international business from four overseas centres – Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah and Muscat - by January next year to tap the growing Indian population there.

"The one year program, to be launched through satellite communications system V-SAT for working professionals, will be offered in association with Hughes Communications India Limited (HCIL)," Director of Indian Institute of Foreign Trade (IIFT) K T Chacko told reporters here.

Speaking on the sidelines of a symposium on consultancy, organised by the institute, Chacko said that the endeavour is meant to attract people of Indian origin, who live in large numbers in the gulf region.

"The numbers (of people of Indian origin) are ever rising, as more and more Indians are going to Gulf countries for work. We aim to offer them a professional degree of a world class institute, which would further enhance their career," he said.

Talking about the upcoming placements for the students, he said that the remuneration offered to its students have always been a trend-setter and the packages for the outgoing batch may break the record of Rs 75 lakh per annum, offered last season to one of its students.

The campus placements would begin in January next year, he added. Chacko, former Director General of Foreign Trade, also expressed concern over rupee appreciation to about 4.6 per cent in 2010.

"Appreciation in Rupee adversely affects the exporters. Although the situation is not alarming, the regulators like RBI must keep a close watch on it," he said. He added that despite rupee appreciation, exports will continue to grow and the target of USD 200 billion would be achieved as the world economy is getting back on track
