Indian Institute of Job Training (IIJT), a career skills training organization and TeamLease Services, a staffing solutions company launched a country-wide VSAT facility to enable last mile access to employability enhancement training on September 21.

The VSAT infrastructure will enable IIJT to give quality career skills training to all candidates, even those in more remote locations who may have been limited by lack of access to quality faculty, infrastructure and exposure to industry professionals.

Currently, 25 company owned IIJT centres are VSAT enabled. IIJT is working with its existing partners to have all 250 centres VSAT enabled by December 2010. In addition VSAT classrooms are being set up in all PPP employment exchanges that Teamlease operates or proposed to operate with various state governments like Karnataka, Gujarat, Rajathan and Maharashtra, etc.

A VSAT classroom can accommodate 25-40 students depending on the size of classroom and there will be two such classrooms per centre.

IIJT’s VSAT facility is being launched with a series of career seminars by professionals from across various industries for the benefit job seekers and students. This is based on the research that many students make their career decisions without much research, role models or active discussion. With 93% of employment in the informal sector, these seminars create an opportunity for interaction with formal sector professionals for students across the country. The seminars are open to the general public, apart from IIJT students.

Part biographical, part professional and part industry, these seminars will have professionals talking about their personal career journey and will give insights to students on selecting and enabling their careers in those industries.

Manish Sabharwal,  Chairman, TeamLease Services, emphasized on the need to fix India’s people supply chain to prevent what could turn out to be a demographic disaster due to lack of right skills amongst the workforce. He said, “This satellite training represents an important move in making geography history. The speed limit to quantity and quality in our vocational training in the long tail of India’s geography of work – more than 4000 town and 6 lac villages – is qualified trainers. As we work to fix India’s broken supply chain, Teamlease and IIJT will align around our proprietary labour market framework called the TeamLease National Employment Framework (TNEF). TNEF takes a detailed look at jobs across various industries, their descriptions and associated functions, to arrive at over 15,000 Ideal Candidate Profiles (ICPs). Using these insights, IIJT develops targeted training programs that help in building industry relevant job skills.”

Ashish Prasad, CEO, IIJT stated that the non-availability of quality faculty across the country particularly for advanced modules was one of the reasons for investing into satellite technology. He further informed that, “A minimum of 25% of all our career courses will be taught from the studio.

The Career Seminars every Saturday will be open to public and are only the first in series of VSAT based interventions that will also include soft skill, pre-placement seminars, etc. Besides normal classes, one of the most effective satellite interventions will be ‘train-the-trainer’ programs for our range of programs across finance, accounting, sales, marketing, hardware/networking, and English. In the next phase this network will also anchor our corporate training business for national clients whose distributed sales or customer service employees currently receive a telephonic induction instead of a structured company, industry and functional training”.
