CCE a student-friendly system: Vineet Joshi

Principals of several city schools affiliated to the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) had their doubts on the Comprehensive and Continuous evaluation (CCE) clarified by the Board chairman Vineet Joshi at an interactive session here on Thursday.

According to participants, Mr. Joshi clarified the concerns of the school heads and also listened to their suggestions. When principals raised questions about students being given the option of taking the board exam this year, he explained the procedures and called the CCE a student-friendly system.

He also explained the three patterns in setting questions for the Summative Assessment 2 (SA2) of class X – the schools could accept the question papers provided by the board; or mix and match the CBSE's questions with their own; or set their own questions based on the guidelines of the Board which it would scrutinise.

He encouraged schools to distribute the SA2 answer scripts to students who attempt the final exam set by the schools if the latter asked for them, for better transparency in the evaluation. Students who take the board exam can apply for re-totalling. Some of the schools requested the board to make the papers of the board available too, participants said. They suggested that a methodology to credit students who performed well was required to which the Chairman said that a decision would be finalised by April.

The CBSE gave schools the permission to allow any student with a genuine reason for absence to take the exam at a later date.According to sources at the CBSE Regional Office, Mr. Joshi interacted with parents in a separate session.
