Approval to augment existing facilities at AIIMS

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs approved the proposal of Ministry of Health & Family Welfare for "Augmenting existing facilities at All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi for implementation of recommendations of Oversight Committee - implementation of Central Educational Institutions (Reservation in Admission) Act, 2006" for reservation in admission for Other Backward classes (OBCs).

Implementation of the 27% reservation in admission for OBCs in AIIMS without altering the number of unreserved seats would necessitate increase in total number of seats in various courses and corresponding increase manpower and infrastructure.

"After implementation of reservation for OBCs in the institute, the annual intake in various undergraduate, postgraduate and paramedical courses will increase by 182. Implementation of reservation for OBCs will not only increase intake capacity of the Institute but also facilitate better health care delivery system," an official press release said on Thursday.
