Apollo Institute of Hospital Management & Allied Sciences (AIHMAS), a unit of Apollo Hospitals, launched seven new courses in allied medical sciences.

These courses in affiliation with Tamil Nadu Dr. M.G.R. Medical University include four degree courses in Critical Care, Theatre Technician, Physician Assistant and Emergency and Trauma Care; an M.Sc. course in Health Informatics and Telemedicine; and two diploma courses — Scope Therapy and Dental Assistants.

Speaking to media, Preetha Reddy, Managing Director, Apollo Hospitals, said while funds are being ploughed into the health care industry to enhance infrastructure, the process of equipping these facilities would not be possible unless the health sector workforce increased manifold.

Not like the past, meeting the global demand wasnt not possible without producing skilled healthcare work force. The solution was to create a number of public-private partnerships, she added.

“The country needs to double the number of doctors, triple the number of nurses and quadruple the number of paramedics. Consequently, this new partnership signed between AIHMAS and Tamil Nadu Dr.M.G.R. Medical University for Paramedical education is a groundbreaking move,†Ms. Reddy added.

The courses would be job-oriented and would fetch successful graduates offers from abroad as well. The hospital hoped to increase the number of seats gradually. The fees for the B.Sc course would be Rs. 30,000 per annum; the M.Sc. Rs. 35,000 per annum and the diploma course, Rs. 25,000 per annum, told K. Prabhakar, Chief Learning Officer, Apollo Hospitals.
