Students protest against collection of excess fees

Updated on: Saturday, July 31, 2010

Tension prevailed at a private self-financing engineering college at Tiruchirapalli suburb when a section of students studying MBA went on rampage stoning one of the college buses this morning.

According to police, the students were protesting against collection of fees more than the stipulated amount for admission to the first and second years of MBA course.

The management of the college turned a deaf ear to repeated appeals by the students against the collection of fees in excess.

This triggered the protest. A group of students stonned the college bus while a few others attempted to stage a road roko when the police rushed to the spot, acting on information.

Police pacified the students and assured them that they would persuade the management to return the excess fees. The students gave up the protest.
