Velammal College to organise Science Utsav

Velammal College of Engineering and Technology, Madurai and Velammal group of Schools - Madurai and Theni will organise a five-day national-level science exhibition in association with Tamil Nadu Science and Technology Centre, Chennai, from July 28 to August 1 on the college premises.

The objective of the proposed event is to give vent to the scientific temper of aspirants from schools and colleges across the nation. This event will showcase futuristic concepts latent in the minds of students and provide a platform to interact with people from leading industries and research organizations. The main theme of the programme is to orient technology for social transformation; hence the theme is “Science and Technology for Society”.

The eminent personalities invited to interact with students includes former President A.P.J.Abdul Kalam, R. Chidambaram, G. Madhavan Nair, Dayanidhi Maran, M.S. Swaminathan, C.N.R. Rao, U.R. Rao, Rajasekaran Pillai and T.N. Seshan

The inauguration of the Science Utsav- 2010 will be held on July 28, 2010 at 9.30 a.m.. T.R. Chidambaram, Director, Inertial Systems, ISRO, Tirvandrum, will be the chief guest and P. Iyamperumal, Executive Director, TNST, Chennai will be the guest of honour. M.V. Muthuramalingam, Chairman, Velammal Group of Institutions will preside . The other eminent personalities are G.J. Samathanam, Advisor, DST, New Delhi, S. Vincent, Member secretary, TNSCST, Chennai and others.

About 4,000 pamphlets were sent to schools and colleges across the nation and 500 projects, exhibits and models were received of which 200 were selected. Winners of various categories of the projects will be honoured with prizes worth a total of Rs.3,00,000.
