EFLU plans to open two more new campuses

Hyderabad: English and Foreign Languages University (EFLU) plan to expand by opening two more new campuses from the next academic year.

The two new campuses will come up in Haryana (Chandigarh) and Kerala (Kollam) while a third new campus has also been proposed at Pochampalli in Andhra Pradesh, according to EFLU vice-chancellor Abhai Maurya.

The University vice-chancellor said the second campus in Andhra Pradesh would take a longer time to come as necessary infrastructure has to be built.

The State government has allotted 100 acres of land for the purpose. Apart from the main campus in Hyderabad, EFLU now has two campuses in Lucknow and Shillong. 'All our branches will be developed into replicas of the main campus,'Maurya said.

EFLU which transformed into a Central University from its earlier avatar as the Central Institute of English and Foreign Languages last year was collaborating with Cambridge University to start the All India English Language Testing Authority on the lines of IELTS.

The Ministry of External Affairs has been sponsoring one such programme for students from Asian and other Third World countries, Maurya said.

Stating that EFLU has grown from 17 to 38 departments with 11 schools and 2,000 students since it became a Central University, the varsity Vice-Chancellor said it would have 5,000 full-time students in the next three years.

The EFLU has been sanctioned Rs 175 crore under the XI Plan for its
development plans, he added.

EFLU has signed MoUs with many international universities for collaboration in the field of research for students as well as teachers. 'We are also evolving a mechanism forconstant collaboration with the industry in the country to ensure better placements for the EFLU graduates as our courses are being widely accepted on par with professional courses,'Maurya added.
