Jamia to hold workshop on handling disaster-affected people

A workshop will be organised by the Jamia Millia Islamia University to prepare psychologists, counsellors and mental health practitioners to respond to the emotional and psychological needs of people affected by disasters.

The workshop titled “Providing Crisis Mental Health in Disasters” will be organised by the institute’s Counselling and Guidance Centre in collaboration with Indian Association of Clinical Psychologists.

The four-hour long session will focus on topic such as Disasters and their Impact, Psychological Crisis, Standard Immediate Interventions, Needs of Adults, Children and Families, Recovery Interventions, Special Disaster Issues and Self Care During and After the Disaster.

The workshop will be conducted by Dr R Kevin Rowell, a certified trainer with the American Red Cross and a member of Disaster Response Network Committee of American Psychological Association. He is presently serving as an associate professor at the University of Central Arkansas.
