Updated on: Tuesday, March 23, 2010

Tiruchirapalli : The University Grants Commission (UGC) has conferred 'autonomy' on National College here with effect from 2010-11.

In a press release here today, College Principal Dr Anbarasu said the UGC decision, which was communicated earlier this month, was following the visit of an expert committee during December 2009.

The committee was satisfied with the performance, academic attainments and infrastructural facilities of the college that mostly caters to the needs of economically backward students.

A new college committee has been constituted with Padma Vibhushan V Krishnamurthy as President and K Raghunathan as Secretary.

The college has plans to start courses like MBA, MCA, MA (History), MSc (Zoology) and Journalism and Mass Communication.
