Exhibition at science congress

Stalls put up by university departments and educational institutions made their presence felt at the Pride of India exhibition that was organised in connection with the 97th Indian Science Congress held at the Kariavattom campus of the University of Kerala from January 3 to 7, 2010.

While six departments of the University of Kerala had set up stalls at the exhibition, IGNOU too pitched in, showcasing various programmes it has on offer. The ISC organisers estimate that more than 2.5 lakh people visited the fair and the other two exhibitions organised as part of the Congress.

The Regional Director of IGNOU Thiruvananthapuram Regional Centre B. Sukumar told The Hindu-EducationPlus that hundreds of information booklets kept at the stall were snapped up by students who came to the exhibition.

Rare astronomical treatises on palm leaf manuscripts caught the eye of many a visitor to the stall put up by the Oriental Research Institute and Manuscripts Library of the University. Students of the department of geology were seen displaying a rare collection of zeolites at their stall.
