Kolkata: Guruvar Awards, the biggest Teacher’s Awards in the country, announced its winners.

Having started in September 2009, the interactive campaign culminated into the celebration of the Indian School Teacher. 16 winners amongst over one lakh nominations by people across the nation were announced and felicitated as India’s best Gurus.
The Awards were initiated by the Varkey Gems Foundation to recognise the critical role that teachers play in our community.
On the successful culmination of the campaign, Sunny Varkey, founder of Guruvar Awards and the chairperson of Varkey Gems Foundation said: "A healthy and sound education system is one of the pillars for any developing nation. There is no education without teachers and without enough teachers we cannot improve the education our children receive. A shortage of strong and passionate teachers will threaten our education system.
“I believe the Guruvar Awards can be a powerful and interactive platform to express gratitude towards those who have contributed so much in shaping our lives,” concluded Varkey.
