Interim stay to appoint Engg grads in depts

Madurai: The madurai bench of the Madras High Court has granted an interim stay to appointment of Engineering Graduates in Departments which required Legal knowledge" in the Tamilnadu State transport Corporation's (TNSTC) divisions in south Tamil Nadu.

Justice K N Basha, admitting a petition filed by A K Thangavelu and others, passed an interim order against appointing such people in departments which required legal knowledge like labour welfare, disciplinary proceedings, labour cases, enquiry wing and salary in Nagercoil, Tirunelveli,Virudhunagar and Madurai Divisions.

The petitioners, who were working with TNSTC as selection grade assistants and Senior assistants, said they had studied law. The Corporation had so far appointed only law graduates as superintendents of Departments dealing with legal issues. TNSTC"s Chennai,Tiruchirapalli and Pudukottai divisions also had only law graduates as superintendents of legal related departments the petitioners pointed out that non law graduates had been appointed in Madurai division as superintendents and Assistant Managers of law-related wings.

Though the issue was discussed during a top level Managing directors meeting, where it was decided to appoint only legal graduates, no action had been taken later, the petitioners said.
