Anna University has earned more than Rs 75 crore from the process of re-evaluation of answer sheets of engineering students

annaAn RTI application revealed that Anna University has earned more than Rs 75 crore from the process of re-evaluation of answer sheets of engineering students.

Anna University said that it collected Rs 82.82 crore for giving photocopies of answer sheets and Rs 46.65 crore for re-evaluation of scores. This was their income since 2011.

Procedure for re-evaluation and photocopies of answer sheets:

Students have to pay Rs 300 and Rs 400 to receive photocopies of each answer sheet and for their re-evaluation respectively
Anna University says that students must apply for re-evaluation within a week of results being announced
What students want:

Students want the university to provide answer sheets copy for Rs 2 per page
Under the RTI act, officials get 30 days to provide the information to students
"I have to pay Rs 300 per subject now to get the photocopy of answer sheet. I would get it for Rs 84 (42 pages) under the RTI Act," says a third year engineering student to TOI

"We will not refund money to applicants even he/she passes after revaluation as we have to pay the examiners. We do not get additional funds from the government and do not collect hefty fees like private colleges", said a senior faculty from the university
"We cannot give more than a week for the students to apply for revaluation after the exams and it will affect job opportunities and higher studies. We also don't have enough storage space to keep answer sheets for long", added the faculty
Background:

In 2011, students could get their sheets cross checked under the RTI act
The Central Information Commission told the HRD Ministry and UGC to fix a rate of Rs 2 per page for photocopy of answer sheets
The order by the CIC was passed on January 15, 2011 when a students challenged the cost of Rs 750 per question paper under the RTI Act.
