gtuTo facilitate the Gujarat Technological University (GTU) to get its University Grants Commission (UGC) affiliation, the State government has decided to hand over to it the Vishwakarma Engineering College campus, spread over 90 acres. It is mandatory for a university to have its own campus for UGC affiliation.

According to newspaper reports, earlier GTU was eyeing 120 acres in Gandhinagar for its campus. Officials revealed that earlier GTU functioned from the L D Engineering College campus and was later shifted to Vishwakarma College in Chandkheda. However, no allotment of plot was made for its own campus until now.

Apart from the Vishwakarma campus, GTU would also be required to set up satellite centres, which are mandatory for it to get 150 acres of land, officials in GTU further revealed.

According to officials in GTU the state government had decided to allot it land near the CRPF camp between Gandhinagar and Chiloda in the year 2014. However, the land was flat and needed a lot of reclaiming work before it could be in a condition to set up a campus.

They also said that the government has offered the campus and the Vishwakarma College building, which will serve as an office or a campus college of GTU. Currently GTU is operating from a building, which it had constructed on the campus.
