Admissions to professional courses under the Non Resident Indian (NRI) quota is likely to come under greater restriction this year following the supreme court ruling confining such admissions to children of NRI parents and close blood relatives. The government of Tamil Nadu would be enforcing the restrictions laid down in the apex court judgement, "We have to abide by the verdict which says only biological parents or legal guardians who are NRIs can sponsor a candidate under the NRI quota. No one else will be permitted to oin a college under this quota from the coming academic year", an official in the higher education ministry said.
